From spring 2026, the DVSA is changing how practical driving tests can be booked, changed, and managed. These changes aim to reduce test slot abuse and shorten waiting times.

Under the new system:
Only the candidate can book a driving test
Instructors and third-party services cannot book on a learner’s behalf
Learners must manage their own DVSA account and test bookings.
Each test booking can now be changed a maximum of two times.
This includes:
Changing the test date
Changing the time
Changing the test centre (within allowed distance)
After two changes, the test must be cancelled and rebooked.
Learners will only be able to change to nearby test centres, not move freely across the country.
This is designed to:
Prevent misuse of popular test centres
Reduce last-minute relocation of test slots
Learners must give sufficient notice when cancelling or changing a test to avoid losing the test fee.
This reinforces the need for realistic planning.
To avoid problems:
Book tests only when close to test-ready
Avoid booking “just in case” slots
Plan practice schedules carefully before booking
